A man is dead after being run over by a car on the outskirts of Melbourne, after his own car was involved in a collision with another vehicle.
The car the man was travelling in was heading south along Mickleham Road just before 10pm yesterday, when a car in front of him slowed to avoid hitting a kangaroo.
His vehicle rear-ended the car in front, but the man was uninjured in the crash.The first crash had slowed to avoid a kangaroo, causing the second car to collide into the back of it. (9NEWS)
But when he got out to inspect the damage, he was hit by a third car travelling in the same direction.
The man, who is yet to be identified, died at the scene,
Police and emergency services rushed to Mickleham Road but were unable to save the man, who died at the scene.
The road was closed in both directions following the crash.The man was not seriously injured in the initial collision, but was hit by a third car while inspecting the damage. (9NEWS)
The drivers of all three cars are assisting police with their enquiries.
The fatality brings Victoria’s road toll to 34 so far this year.
